Heavy misty rain in Volcano, so we decided to head into the park and see if it was raining there, plus we wanted to drive down Hilina Pali road. The sun was shining when we reached Hilina Pali and the dead trees looked like they were painted silver against the rocks. We didn't stop along the way for pictures because we figured we'd stop along the way back. Nope. When we reached the pali (cliffs), it started raining and an extremely heavy mist settled over everything. It was so thick at times that driving became iffy because visibility was so low. Made for some awesome creepy pictures though! After that, we drove down Chain of Craters Road until it ended, and walked over to the Holei Sea Arch. Sea arches are formed by wave erosion. The waves erode the softer rocks or more fractured rocks first, because they are more easily weathered. After much erosion, an arch is left over top of the water. The cliffs here are 80-90 feet high. The waves were really pounding against the rocks!
The rain eventually became so heavy we decided to leave and we ate lunch at the Volcano Country Club. While there it rained even harder and the golf course started to flood!
We left for our cabin on the golf course, and since we didn't want to build an ark, Mike decided to teach Mom, Jana, and I how to play euchre. We had loads of fun! Mike and I won a game and were ahead 8-0 on the second game before we stopped for dinner (pizza!). Mom said we should start over. Bad choice for Mike and I. We lost the next set and were skunked the last set before bed. We like to say we let the old ladies win...LOL.
Now what does the "L" on the forehead mean? Love?? Mom and Aunt Jana keep giving us the "L" sign. Hmmmm
Pictures here!
