July 27 - Our last day!

Mike took the women and Jr snorkeling again this morning but they didn't see any major things. We did some beach and pool time, then dinner at Harbor grill. Our last night!

Here are the last set of pictures!

July 26 - snorkeling, dolphins, and manta rays!

Mike took the women and Jr snorkeling in the morning and they got to see a pod of dolphins! Very cool! It was pretty much beach and pool all day. Mike and I went snorkeling in the afternoon and we got to see a manta ray! We ate dinner at the Blue Dragon.

July 25 - Beach and more beach!

Beach and pool all day, then dinner at Bubba Gumps.

July 24 - Beach Week begins

Beach and pool all day, then dinner at Tommy Bahamas.

July 23 - Leaving Volcano for the sunny coast!

We left Volcano today, driving Saddle Road to cross the island -- not as fun now that they fixed up the road! We ate at Huli Sue's, did our laundry in Waimea, checked into the Hapuna Prince, and ate dinner at Tres Hombres. It was cloudy at the hotel but not raining!

July 22 - Spooky mist and ark building??

Heavy misty rain in Volcano, so we decided to head into the park and see if it was raining there, plus we wanted to drive down Hilina Pali road. The sun was shining when we reached Hilina Pali and the dead trees looked like they were painted silver against the rocks. We didn't stop along the way for pictures because we figured we'd stop along the way back. Nope. When we reached the pali (cliffs), it started raining and an extremely heavy mist settled over everything. It was so thick at times that driving became iffy because visibility was so low. Made for some awesome creepy pictures though! After that, we drove down Chain of Craters Road until it ended, and walked over to the Holei Sea Arch. Sea arches are formed by wave erosion. The waves erode the softer rocks or more fractured rocks first, because they are more easily weathered. After much erosion, an arch is left over top of the water. The cliffs here are 80-90 feet high. The waves were really pounding against the rocks!

The rain eventually became so heavy we decided to leave and we ate lunch at the Volcano Country Club. While there it rained even harder and the golf course started to flood!

We left for our cabin on the golf course, and since we didn't want to build an ark, Mike decided to teach Mom, Jana, and I how to play euchre. We had loads of fun! Mike and I won a game and were ahead 8-0 on the second game before we stopped for dinner (pizza!). Mom said we should start over. Bad choice for Mike and I. We lost the next set and were skunked the last set before bed. We like to say we let the old ladies win...LOL.

Now what does the "L" on the forehead mean? Love?? Mom and Aunt Jana keep giving us the "L" sign. Hmmmm

July 21 - Another sunny day!!

Today we all hiked Mauna Ulu. Since just Mike and Jr went to Ulu last time, we decided to all hike there since the weather was so nice. The hike was great and we got some wonderful pictures. We also saw a bunch of steam rising not very far from where we were that hadn't been there days before. Very cool! Michael Jr also found some really unique lava rock that was so airy it just crumbled into dust. The ranger told us it was titanium. Very, very, neat. Michael also became a Junior Ranger for HVNP! He was happy! :)

That night we ate at the Volcano House. Terrible service, even though they weren't busy. Very disappointing!
